The FSST is part of the Department of Police and Emergency Management, previously being Forensic Services within the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment. ;;;;Forensic Science Service Tasmania (FSST) provides forensic chemistry and forensic biology services to State and local government agencies, industry and the general public. The FSST is divided into two sections - the Forensic Chemistry Section and the Forensic Biology Section. The Forensic Chemistry Section provides general forensic chemistry service and expert evidence in toxicology, controlled substances, blood alcohol, accelerant residues and physical evidence. It also provides Supervising Analyst Services. The Forensic Biology Section provides a general forensic biology service in biological examination of evidence items and DNA profiling.
