As a result of the State Government's Tasmania Tomorrow initiative; the Tasmanian Skills Institute commenced in 2009 as one of the new education providers for post Year 10 students.;;;;The focus of the Institute is on providing education and training to employed people, including trainees and apprentices, as well as employees interested in short courses, skill sets, customised group training programs or general skills advice and consultation.;;;;The Skills Institute was established under the Education and Training (Tasmanian Skills Institute) Act 2009. However, according to the Education & Training (Repeals & Transitional Provisions) Act 2009 the provisional names of the Institute are 'Training Tasmania' and the 'Training Enterprise'.;;;;Courses offered across the State include Automotive/Transport, Construction and Allied Trades, Electrotechnology and ICT, Human Services, Metals/Manufacturing, Mining, Personal Services, Retail/Customer Relations, Tourism/Hospitality, Natural Resources and Management. ;;;;On July 1 2013, the Tasmanian Polytechnic was merged with the Tasmanian Skills Institute to form TasTAFE.
