Description:
Launceston State High School began in 1913 and for the first three years was housed at the Charles Street School, Milton Hall and St John's Church Hall until the new buildings were opened at the current site in Paterson Street in 1916. In 1937 school closed early for the year becuse of the polio epidemic. The principal's journal for 1966 reports that 'matric enrolment has now reached a total of 376 while the budget planned for 280'. In 1967 the high school changed to being Launceston Matriculation College, catering just for years 11 and 12.
