In August 2002, Sport and Recreation Tasmania was formed as a division within the new Department of Economic Development. Its mission was to ensure that all Tasmanians are physically active through sport and recreation.;;;;On 1 July 2014, Sport and Recreation Tasmania came under the control of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, merging with Community Development to become a new division within the Department.
