Series notes:
Files for children and some adults assessed by the State Psychiatric Clinic. The clinic was established to assess the educational needs and standards of children as young as two years old (the assessments of some of the younger children being linked to applications for adoption). The clinic also assessed intellectually disabled adults, usually for admission to the Royal Derwent Hospital. Its role was expanded to include the pre-trial and pre-release assessment of some prisoners, suitability for employment, eligibility for invalid pensions, suitability of police officers to continue in employment, and even applications to the Superannuation Fund Board which declared a nervous disorder.
