Series notes:
This series comprises at least four separate indices which have been interfiled at some point. The main sequence of (orange) cards index the Land Case files (series LSD35) and "Old Admin" files (series not identified). Each card records the name of the private party, date of transaction, subject and file number (usually omitting the "LC" prefix). There are at least three sequences of smaller white index cards. One sequence of plain white cards was known in the Department as "personal holding cards" and refers to applications to purchase or lease Crown Land (including occupation licences). [These should not be confused with the Personal Holdings Files in series LSD347 which are un-numbered and arranged alphabetically.] Files numbered with an "A" prefix are in series LSD191 and those with a "B" prefix are in LSD377. At the time of transfer there was one separate drawer of personal holding cards, described as being "in no order", which have been added to the end of this series.A sequence of lined white cards refers to early Property Files and includes a reference to the plot number on a set of 1:25,000 maintained by the Department.Another sequence of plain white cards has a four-tier alphanumeric coding which may refer to the series of Crown Land files which no longer exist (see details of the Register in series AD915).Many of the "A", "B" and "PF" files were subsequently converted to a general correspondence series and the Department maintains registers of converted file numbers.~~~
