Series notes:
The snow survey's come in various formats. The photographic survey readings vary in how they were displayed, from white laminated card, to black laminated card to loose photographs. These photographs were taken after each snow fall or thaw or if it was stable, once a week. They were taken from set points and though these varied slightly there is a general consistency to them. The locations at Mt Field National Park were - the ski area and mountain taken from Wombat Moor, Lake Dobson Car Park, Golden Stairs from Lake Dobson weather box, Mawson tow points, Uni tow chute and Rodway tow from Lake Seal Lookout. (AE747/1/7). The snow pole surveys were taken in conjunction with the photographs. An average snow depth was recorded for each recording day. The snow depths were measured in centimetres and were measured at set points at Lake Dobson and Mount Mawson. (AE747/1/7). There are also general weather reports to support the above information. Additional information was also gathered on visitor numbers, cars etc. The general weather and snow information was also used to inform visitors of conditions.
These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
