Many of the exhibits tendered to the Commissioners for the Royal Commission can be found interspersed amongst the correspondence and working files series. Those in this series are accompanied by additional paperwork and have been left the way they were received at the time of transfer. In particular, these exhibits and papers appear to have been removed, top-numbered then returned to the Royal Commission having been required for use by the Crown Solicitor for the case brought against the Crown by George Wishart Smith, the Commissioner of Railways who was dismissed as a result of the Royal Commission. The date range of this series is outside the date range of the Royal Commission for this reason and also because some of the evidence gathered for the investigation was taken from Tasmanian Government Railways correspondence.
