Series notes:
These photographs are a set of mostly oblique black and white photogaphs taken from an RAAF Lincoln Bomber. The RAAF did an aerial survey of Macquarie Island in 1947. The photographs were thought to have been used to assist planners of the Australian expedition to the Antarctic later that year when Macquarie Island was to be used as a base. The Lands and Surveys Department began their work on Macquarie Island in the early 1950s and subsequently acquired these photographs.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
