It was compulsory for local government to record information on notifiable diseases reported to it. Details recorded in this register include: date of notification, the nature of the disease (e.g. diphtheria, TB, scarlet fever, hepatitis etc), address or locality of residence, name of patient, name of occupier of the residence, age, sex, school attended (if relevant), date removed to hospital and name of hospital.
