Series notes:
Recovered as estrays. Memoranda from Josiah Spode, Principal Superintendent of Convicts, ordering the assignment of convicts to Hard Labour Gangs, predominantly to the Richmond Chain Gang, Hulk Chain Gang and to a couple of chain gangs on the Tasman Peninsula.

These records contain brief information about each convict, including their name, police number, ship, length of sentence and which hard labour gang they were sent to.

Spode had received these orders from Lieutenant Governor George Arthur, hence the various Colonial Secretary's Correspondence file numbers that can be seen on the items (series CSO1).

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
