Series notes:
Prisoners wishing to write letters or memorials had to apply to the school master, who had to record certin details in this register. The register was then submitted daily to the superintendent for approval.
Details recorded included - name of prisoner, ship, how long they had been in the establishment, when/if they had previously written, the details of the person to whom the prisoner wished to write, the nature of the letter or memorial and the superintendent's decision on whether to approve the request.
