Series notes:
The correspondence is mainly from Gustav Thureau, Chief Inspector of Mines. It is concerned with his role as inspector and involves mine inspections under the regulations (breaches of and prosecutions under). Much of the correspondence is also concerned with his geological survey work. Where there are reports on specific sites, they invariably appear later as Parliamentary Papers but the correspondence to the Minister and Secretary for Mines is very interesting in the accounts he gives of his visits to various places. Correspondence also deals with day to day administration as Chief Inspector of Mines.~
