Series notes:
Charles William Butler was the son of Charles Butler, lawyer, and his wife Georgina (nee Wilmot) and was the grandson of Gamalial Butler of "Stowell', Battery Point. He was born in Hobart on the 18/09/1854 and died in Hobart on the 10/06/1937. He lived at "Ashfield", Sandy Bay with his wife Beatrice (nee Travers) and was a partner in the legal firm of Butler, McIntyre and Butler. He was an active member of the Royal Tennis Club, Hobart. His children were Marjorie Travers Butler, Beatrice Travers Butler , Charles Travers Butler, Geoffrey Travers Butler, Leicester Travers (Sam) Butler, James Travers Butler and Archibald, who died in infancy.
