| Description (Content/Function): |
It would appear that Brock kept this diary for a variety of purposes. Apart from keeping it as an inspection notebook regarding properties he visited in the Fingal Valley, he also wrote notes on subjects as diverse as land lobsters, snakes, birds, salmon, dog wood, cigar making, sheep liver fluke, convicts, grasses, manure, fencing, roofing, and wool just to name a few. He wrote at some length about mining prospects, in particular tin mining on the family's properties of 'Red Rock', and 'Rosemount' in the Royal George district, including various legal matters regarding these properties. His jottings also include notes about New Zealand and the Maori, India and much more.
