P1290 Index of Drawings, Dp Class Railcars01 Jan 194631 Dec 1948
Series notes:
This series consists of mechanical construction drawings and blueprints for the classes of steam locomotive, A; A+ (the + annotation was used to denote ex Tasmanian Main Line Railway Company stock); B; C; CC; CCS; D; D+; E; E+; G; H; J; K; L; M (Beyer-Peacock); M (Robert Stevenson and Hawthorn); Q; R; S; and T and the self propelled rail cars DP (diesel patrol) and SP (steam patrol), operated by the Tasmanian Government Railways [TGR]. The drawings were produced as sets by the manufacturers of the locomotives (with the exception of the S class which was designed by TGR but not built) and include later modifications and additions made by TGR. In most cases the drawings are on starched linen. They were stored in roll form with outside covers and a removable binding consisting of two blackwood timber strips and brass nuts and bolts. The drawings are usually preceded by an index and the drawings numbered sequentially. Prior to transfer to Australian Archives in 1986 the drawings were stored in pigeonholes in the mechanical drawing vault at the Invermay Workshops site in Launceston. Water damage from a flood in 1929 that submerged the rail yard to the depth of 6 feet is evident in some of the drawings.

Plans of former locomotives of the Emu Bay Railway, donated to National Archives by the company in 1997, have been removed from this series and accessioned as AF207.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
