Series notes:
This series consists of volumes of test results conducted at the Launceston Railway Workshops of the Tasmanian Government Railways. The tests were conducted on various stores items used throughout the Workshops as well as parts and performance characteristics of locomotives and wagons. The volumes in Archives custody were previously located in the Mechanical Engineering Office at Invermay. The test results were used to advise Stores Branch of the preferred manufacturer or product to be stocked for use by the various sections of the Workshops. In the case of tests carried out on locomotives, the aim was sometimes to test a new part or product and assess its effect on the performance and efficiency of the locomotives operation. Tests were also carried out in the aftermath of accidents, for example, on the operation of the locomotives brakes' under certain operation conditions.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
