This series consists of files containing maintenance and service records for diesel engines used in diesel, diesel-electric and diesel hydraulic locomotives of the Tasmanian Government Railways/ after 1978 AN Tasrail. Files are raised for individual engines and placed in locomotive class and engine number order. Information on file includes an 'Engine change and mileage record' which details the date and type of maintenance service performed, engine and locomotive mileage details, locomotive number that the engine is fitted to and details of when and which locomotive the engine has been changed to. The service schedules for both the engine and current locomotive include piston ring gaps and groove clearance reports, tyre profiles and records of big end bearing nip. Agency permission was received by the National Archives to open these records before they reached 30 years of age see file 2006/1854, document 399442006.
